Naze Naze

Last summer, amidst a scorching heatwave in London, I embarked on an exhilarating journey to the enchanting city of Bergen, Norway. As I stepped foot in this vibrant coastal gem, I was immediately captivated by its awe-inspiring beauty and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Bergen, known as the "Gateway to the Fjords," offered a delightful blend of delectable cuisine and rich cultural that I was not aware of. As I was meandering down the streets one rainy afternoon, I stumbled upon NorthingCo. NorthingCo space holds exhibits for new concepts and projects. This is where I met Ben, who told me about Naze Naze.

The Naze Naze project is a textile studio that aims to revitalize the art of hand-weaving by working with local women, particularly the Dulong women, and preserving their cultural traditions. The project acknowledges and highlights the expertise of these women weavers in every product they create. It also seeks to empower more women weavers, providing them with opportunities to realize their potential and gain a stronger sense of agency. In addition to preserving the legacy of hand-weaving, the Naze Naze project aims to use textiles as a means to foster connections and understanding between urban and rural areas. The project's logo, featuring a pair of hands with the index fingers touching, symbolizes "connection" in sign language. Founded in 2020, the Naze Naze project continually explores new areas and endeavours to integrate sustainable development principles into their design process and subsequent editions.

By working with local women, the project taps into the potential of local culture, preserves ethnic customs, and seeks to revive the dying art of weaving by hand. While leveraging the Dulong women's expertise in weaving, the Naze Naze project acknowledges the women weavers on every product. In addition to preserving the legacy of hand-weaving, they also intend to use textiles to build new connections of mutual understanding between urban and rural areas. The logo of the Naze Naze project, a pair of hands with the index fingers touching, represents "connection" in sign language. In 2020, Naze Naze was founded. As a textile studio, its job is to discover more areas.
